We’ve invited our partners at Water Street Studio to tell you about our collaboration in the Believe Write Share community project now under way:
At Water Street Studio, we believe people have stories to tell. We share those stories in our art, our writing, and in our community. Believe, Write, Share, our partnership project with the Central Rappahannock Regional Library, will enable local residents, young and old, to write about core beliefs and guiding principles—and share them with the community.
This I Believe originated in the 1950’s on CBS Radio, continued on NPR from 2005-2009, and now stands on its own at thisibelieve.org. The site encourages a public dialogue, not to get everyone believing in the same way, but to develop an understanding and respect for other ways of thinking.
We hope for the same from our area. What beliefs guide you? What have you learned through experience? Please take a few moments and write your story. Include specific anecdotes (but please limit yourself to less than 500 words).
We’ll post as many as we can on the library’s website. Water Street writers will invite some of you to read your essays aloud at our August community event. We hope you all will attend.
Whether you think chocolate is the answer to all life’s problems or that we need more heroes in the world, tell us! Worried about your writing skills? Don’t. This is not a writing contest but a chance to speak from the heart.
We’ll be at Water Street Studio on June 14 from 11-2. Stop by then or anytime if you have questions. We’d love to meet you.
