Where the Red Fern Grows

Thanks for your request for a Book Match. It sounds as though you like lots of different kinds of books. Here are some suggestions:

Bo & Mzzz Mad by Sid Fleischman. When his father dies, Bo Gamage moves in with his distant and estranged relatives, the Martinkas, and finds that "Mad" lives up to her name, PawPaw despises him, and Aunt Juna hopes he'll help search for the gold mine that started a family feud.

Dolphin Luck by Hilary McKay. Sent by their vacationing parents to visit Mad Aunt Mabel, Perry and Ant have an adventure, while their younger siblings Sun Dance and Beany stay at home making burglar traps and searching for a magic sword. [If you like this one, the author has written several other hilarious books about the same kids.]

Lion Boy by Zizou Corder. In the near future, a boy with the ability to speak the language of cats sets out from London to seek his kidnapped parents and finds himself on a Paris-bound circus ship learning to train lions. [The sequel will be out this fall.]

My Side of the Mountain by Jean Craighead George. Twelve-year-old Sam decides he'll live by his wits in the Catskill Mountains, making a tree house, hunting for food, and surviving the winter.

A Week in the Woods by Andrew Clements. The fifth grade's annual camping trip in the woods tests Mark's survival skills and his ability to relate to a teacher who seems out to get him.
