Fighting for Your Marriage by Howard J. Markman, Scott M. Stanley, Susan L. Blumberg
Someone whom I love very much was recently going through marriage counseling, and he told me that the counselor always recommends that both people first read the book Fighting for Your Marriage. This intrigued me, so I got the book and found it really interesting and fun to read.
There are some "active listening" techniques that were very helpful, and I use them not only with my husband but also with my friends and coworkers with great success! Active listening demonstrates to other people that you really are hearing what they have to say and that you respect their opinions even if you see things differently.
This book is all about conflict resolution, so I think that anyone could benefit from reading it—anyone who has family problems, friends with problems, or conflicts of any type. Now I just have to remember to keep using these techniques. I should probably reread this book in a year or so!
Our newer edition also comes with an instructional DVD for couples.
