The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (Germany, 1920)

Saturday, June 5 - 2:00 pm

Director: Robert Wiene

In this silent 1920s masterpiece, an insane asylum inmate explains to his psychiatrist how he came to the institution, telling the shrink the story of the evil hypnotist Caligari (Werner Krauss) and his unwitting pawn, the sleepwalker Cesare (Conrad Veidt). This stark expressionist film from German director Robert Wiene astonishes with the power of its sets and visuals, and the creepy plot easily raises hackles on the back of one's neck.

A Tale of Two Cities (1935)

Thursday, July 1 - 7:00 pm

Director: Jack Conway

Ronald Colman gives the performance of his career as a disgraced lawyer defending an accused spy while trying to redeem himself in the eyes of the woman both he and the defendant love. Elizabeth Allan, Donald Woods and Basil Rathbone also star in this definitive film version of Charles Dickens's sweeping tale of love and tumult during the French Revolution, an Oscar-nominated classic from producer David O. Selznik.

Beat the Devil (1954)

Saturday, August 7 - 2:00 pm

Director: John Huston

John Huston directs the legendary Humphrey Bogart in this tongue-in-cheek parody of spy films from the 1940s -- with a script written by the equally legendary Truman Capote. When their steamer goes belly up and strands them in Italy, four criminals (Robert Morley, Peter Lorre, Ivor Barnard and Marco Tulli) try to con a stranger (Bogart) into buying them land that's packed with uranium. Gina Lollobrigida and Jennifer Jones co-star.
