Wanted: Local High School Yearbooks

The Central Rappahannock Regional Library wants to add to its local yearbook collection for the region we serve: Fredericksburg, Stafford, Spotsylvania and Westmoreland. If you have a yearbook gathering dust on some bookcase in the back bedroom, perhaps you would donate it to the Virginiana collection? Or, maybe you'd rather let us scan your yearbook so that while you keep it, you also may share the content with the entire community. If this is something you would like to do, please call the Headquarters library reference desk, 540-372-1144. Find out more.

YALSA

My friends outside the library world look at me like I'm crazy when I tell them how I spent the last year. There were several wonderful, almost-relaxing family vacations (I spent too much time worrying about the mountain of books I'd brought along and hadn't read), a little time in the garden (with an audiobook playing) and an occasional peek at the Olympics or election news (book still open on lap), but really, when I wasn't working or sleeping this year, I was reading.

For the past five years, Library Elf has been a free, third-party service for patrons who wanted to link multiple household cards together on one screen to keep track of upcoming overdues and available holds. However, since the service's usage grew, the company's ad revenue was not able to completely offset their operating costs. As of January 23, 2009, the service became a two-tier service, with basic and premium levels.

A Top Ten American Library

In a recent comparison (Hennen’s American Public Library Rating Index) of over 9,000 libraries in the U.S., CRRL ranks 4th among libraries nationwide serving populations of 250,000–500,000. The CRRL ranks 1st in Virginia in the same category. The annual ratings recognize the public libraries in America with the highest levels of cost effective service, the most efficient use of the taxpayers’ dollars.
