A relative of one of my customers called me from Hawaii to tell me that I had to read this book. I can always tell it is he when I pick up the phone and hear, "Aloha!!!" He didn't want to tell me too much about Little Star by John Ajvide Lindqvist, because he didn't want to spoil anything for me. However, he did want me to call him to discuss the book as soon as I finished it.
After reading it, I have to say that if you like Stephen King, you would enjoy Little Star, which focuses on two girls—one of whom is a sociopath and another who idolizes and wants to be just like her.
Lindqvist has a wonderful way of developing characters within a horror genre. This intellectual approach to horror makes the characters even more creepy, disturbing, and unforgettable for me. The haunting novel is really the love story of two girls who form a powerful alliance in a "Thelma and Louise" way.
This is not the only horror/love story that Lindqvist has written. He is extremely good at writing this unique genre, and his debut novel, Let the Right One In, is another wonderful example of a love story combined with horror. Both are novels that will stick in your mind. Little Star will make you long to discuss it with someone else who has read it, as well as make you think about the two girls, Theres and Teresa, for a long time to come.
