About Lobby Stops

Our Lobby Stop van, funded by a generous bequest from the estate of longtime CRRL Friends Dr. and Mrs. Clayton Blum, makes scheduled visits to targeted communities in the CRRL service area: we visit fifteen assisted living facilities and senior apartments and the remote Lake Anna area. At the residential facilities, the service brings browsing materials and requested items inside to the patrons, tailoring our selection and services to these special audiences.

Lobby Stop coordinator Jenny McGee finds a warm welcome wherever the van pulls up. "At each stop I bring the computer, all my equipment, a table, and 3 or 4 carts full of not only browsing materials, but specific patron requests. The fact that I can do all the patrons' reference work excites them the most, but is closely followed by the eclectic (and constantly changing) browsing collection."

"Since the majority of my lobby stops take place at senior apartments and assisted living facilities, the patrons really love not having to brave the elements to come browse library materials."

Judging from the response, this service that takes the library on the road is a vehicle for success.
