April Is National Autism Awareness Month

Autism is a spectrum disorder, meaning that its symptoms range from mild to severe and vary by individual. An autistic child might appear to be largely oblivious to his surroundings, violently overwhelmed by physical sensations, or he might seem outwardly to be simply socially awkward.

One in 150 children is now diagnosed with autism.  If you have a child or know a family who deals with autism on a daily basis, please be aware that there are resources available to increase their understanding of the condition and to help make their daily lives easier to manage.  Check out our article on autism for support groups, first-hand accounts, therapies, research, and recommendations for those just starting out.
