Special Services

The Central Rappahannock Regional Library reaches out to those persons in its service area who are not able to fully take advantage of the services offered in its fixed facilities.

Alternative library services include:

Bookmobile

The Central Rappahannock Regional Library operates its bookmobile in the counties of Spotsylvania and Stafford and the City of Fredericksburg. The bookmobile makes biweekly runs to scheduled stops. While it is not equipped with a lift, staff will serve patrons with disabilities from the vehicle. Call 540-372-1144 for a schedule. Resources for persons with disabilities

The Library continues to seek ways to serve all people in our community. In 1992, we began working closely with what is now the disAbility Resource Center of the Rappahannock Area, Inc., a center for independent living. In support of their efforts, CRRL has over 300 titles in our circulating and reference collections pertaining to various disabilities. We host the FINDHelp Web site on disabilities information in the Fredericksburg area, and are commited to the following programs.

Delivery to institutions and private homes for homebound individuals

Staff select materials for area nursing homes, jails and detention centers, medical units, and day care centers. Materials are delivered biweekly and include large print, paperbacks, picture books, audio tapes and magazines. Requests for materials by residents are accepted and delivered to the patron at the next delivery as available. Those patrons who have no other source for library materials are included in our home delivery service. Call 540-372-1144, 235, for more information on this special service.

Books-by-mail

Home delivery by mail is available for people who cannot get to the library due to physical disabilities. Librarians choose materials based on your interests or requested titles and mail directly to your home. You may have the items for one month and are responsible for return postage to the library. Call the Outreach Department to register for this service.

Talking book services

Anyone who is unable to read or use standard print materials due to temporary or permanent visual, physical or learning disability may be eligible for talking book service. More
