AARP Tax Aid Clinics
IRS-trained volunteers will be available to prepare simple tax returns beginning in January. All returns will be filed electronically. Appointments may be made one week in advance. Walk-ins will be accepted as space permits. Taxpayers must bring social security cards, photo IDs, last year's return, and all other necessary forms and receipts (W2s, 1099s, etc.).

Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) Clinics
For all sites, the maximum 2009 income limit for a family is $49,000 (regardless of family size). Taxpayers should be eligible for the EITC to receive help at several Fredericksburg area sites. To get more information on eligibility and EITC clinics, taxpayers can visit Rappahannock United Way online or call at 540-371-5268. No appointments needed. Taxpayers must bring social security cards, photo IDs, last year's return, and all other necessary forms and receipts (W2s, 1099s, etc.), childcare provider's ID number, amount of any other income or economic stimulus payments if received, bank documents showing routing and account numbers if requesting direct deposit.
In the case of inclement weather, sites may be closed.

Tax Help for Elderly and Low Income
Trained volunteer tax preparers will be offering free assistance to elderly and low-income residents. For more information, contact United Way at 540-373-0041.

- Download forms and instructions for the present year back to 1990. Adobe Acrobat Reader is freely available to download and use for viewing and printing documents. You may also read lengthy publications online, if you desire. Files may be searched by keyword. Some of the more popular forms are available in a "fill-in" version. - The American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) provides information to help you complete your federal tax return. Site offers frequently asked questions and an opportunity to ask questions of trained volunteers.
- Virginia Department of Taxation
Individuals are encouraged to file electronically using iFile. You can find Virginia tax forms from 1995-present online. Answers to frequently-asked questions and forms for businesses and estates can be found on the department's home page. You may also request that forms be mailed to your home, or download them in Adobe portable document format (.pdf) from home or in the library. Otherwise, forms are not being mailed out.
