The Headless Horseman rides tonight
Through stark and starless skies,
Shattering the silence with
His otherworldly cries.
He races through the darkness
On his alabaster steed,
The Headless Horseman rides tonight,
Wherever the fates would lead.
Jack Prelutsky has written much picturesque poetry, including the humorous collections Something Big Has Been Here and A Pizza the Size of the Sun. But, Prelutsky's poetry is not always funny. With Nightmares: Poems to Trouble Your Sleep and the companion volume, The Headless Horseman Rides Tonight, he evokes 12 fantastic and gripping nightmares.
Lurking in the swampland, lanterns glowing like the sun, sits a massive mama globster with her bitty globby one . . .
A book is read, a story ends, a telling tale is told. But who can say what mysteries a single page may hold?
Figure out this fantastic seek-and-find mystery by Graeme Base! When Horace the Elephant turns eleven, he decides there should be a celebration. But, not just any celebration—a celebration with a BIG feast! Horace chooses his ten guests, then eleven favorite foods of his choice. And, of course, eleven fun games to play!
One witch goes zip. Two go zoom. Three witches glide from room to room!
It's time to bone up for the first day of school! But Bonaparte the Skeleton is worried. He's always falling apart.
Sometimes he loses a bone when riding his bike, or playing catch. Other times, his bones just roll away, taking him forever to find them. To make matters worse, school is starting soon. Bonaparte can't be made fun of the whole school year just because he keeps losing his bones!
You think you have problems? Think again. Frankenstein, Dracula, Wolfman . . . they all have problems. Monster-sized problems.
Frankie just wants to borrow ingredients to make a sandwich, but his neighbors keep chasing him away with fire and pitchforks. Wolfman's best friend (Dynamite the dog) just wants a cleaner roommate. The Invisible Man just wants a haircut! And the Phantom of the Opera can't get "It's a Small World, After All" out of his head.
There are so many fantastic monster picture books out there! From classics, such as the beastly Where the Wild Things Are, to interactive reads, such as Go Away Big, Green Monster, the library has all sorts of tales about creatures that are friendly, fearsome, silly, and suspenseful.
Here are my favorite picture books that feature monsters of all kinds. Find one that you like and have a howling good storytime!
Monster trucks moan! Monster trucks grumble! Monster trucks groan!
Somewhere on a spooky speedway, FRANKENTRUCK (He's ALIVE! He's ALIVE!) is the first to arrive at the great monster truck race. Then, it's WEREWOLF TRUCK, who croons a lovely tune . . . a screech, a growl, and a howl! Next up: ZOMBIE TRUCK, whose headlights glow green, and GHOST TRUCK, who appears out of the shadows, rattling his axles and grinding his gears! Last, but not least, there's VAMPIRE TRUCK, who waits for his victims and drinks down their fuel!
Quackers is a duck. Sure, he might hate water, have fur instead of feathers, and say “Meow,” but, still, he’s a duck. After all, he lives at the duck pond with the other ducks. All his friends are ducks. Everyone knows that he’s a duck. Until the day that Quackers meets Mittens.
Jasper the Rabbit isn't scared of much. After all, he defeated the creepy carrots the last time we saw him.
When his mom takes him underwear shopping, Jasper spots them. Creepy underwear! How cool is that? Immediately, Jasper asks his mom for a pair. Although she finds them very creepy, she buys him a pair.
