Online Career Help with Tutor.com

For free online help putting a resume together, viewing job listings, or chatting with a career specialist, have a look at Tutor.com.

From the library’s homepage (http://www.librarypoint.org), click Library Services, and select Live Homework Help, which gets you to the Tutor.com Learning Suite.  Click the Career Center button and then click Continue in the Career Help box on the left.

At the next screen, watch a helpful Resume Writing Workshop video or visit the Skills Center, which provides access to thousands of worksheets, tutorials, and study guides organized by subject: cover letter, resume templates, sample resumes, and writing guidelines.

Want to see job listings? Click Skills Center in the upper middle of the Live Tutor Career Help screen and click Adult Services at the next screen.  Choose Job Openings to find jobs indexed geographically, from Akron through Youngstown, including Richmond and Washington. Selecting Washington-Arlington-Alexandria leads to 34 different Web sites with job listings for the area. The Richmond link finds 12 sites with job listings.

Back at Tutor.com’s Adult Services list, you can also select Job Resources for career assessment, interview tips, and “Job Search Information and Tips” Web sites. The Adult Services list also links to resources that help prepare for the GED, or assist with “Resumes and Cover Letters.”

Need expert assistance? Consult online with a career specialist. Help is available in English and Spanish from 3:00 PM to 10:00 PM. You’ll answer a few questions so that the career specialist knows what level of help you will need. Career specialists locate authoritative websites and resources you can use to refine your resume, search for a job or prepare for an interview. Your career specialist will share web sites onscreen with you, so you can explore them together. If you upload your resume or cover letter, they can help you edit it for maximum impact. After each session, you may replay, email or print your session to refer to it again later.

If you have any questions about using the Tutor.com Career Center resources, please call the reference desk at your local branch. We’ll be happy to help!
