Gardening at the Library

One exciting way that CRRL brings people together is through our vegetable gardens, food collections, and involvement in summer feeding programs. In 2018, there was...

  • 4,124 pounds of food collected during Food For Fines. The library collected canned food in October to celebrate Teen Read Week. Donations benefited local food banks and pantries.
  • 691 pounds of produce donated to S.E.R.V.E and the Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank.  During the spring, summer, and fall our gardens grow fresh produce that is donated to local food banks and pantries. Gardens at PorterSalem Church, and Howell branches are tended by library staff and volunteers and grow a wide variety of fresh vegetables and greens.
  • 1,688 pounds of food donated through branch collections. Porter and Howell branches collect non-perishable food year around for S.E.R.V.E
