Join JumpStart’s Read for the Record! Thursday, October 28
What is it?
JumpStart's Read for the Record® is a global campaign that brings together millions of adults and children as they read the same book on the same day, building an intergenerational community through the power of reading.
To date, the campaign has amassed 22 million participants worldwide and has facilitated the distribution of hundreds of thousands of high-quality books to children in underserved communities.
This year, JumpStart recognizes that things look and feel differently than they have before, and Read for the Record is committed to meeting you where you are: at home, in the classroom, in your communities, in person, and virtually.
How do I Join?
This year, you can "join" the record digitally and in person.
A digital copy of the chosen 2021 book will be posted on the website, along with a form, on October 28. You will sign the form to confirm that you've read the book.
Print book, sign in, and in-person activities will be offered options on October 28 at all open library branches.
Share your commitment to read with a child using #ReadfortheRecord on all social media!
Amy Wu and the Patchwork Dragon, by Kat Zhang, is a celebration of cultural symbols, family, and self-affirmation.
About the Book
When Amy Wu’s class is making their own dragons at craft time, Amy creates a dragon with a long, wingless body, stag-like horns, and eagle claws, but her friends don’t think it’s a real dragon. Then Amy tries making dragons that look like theirs, but none of them feels quite right.
After school, a story from Grandma sparks new inspiration, and together, with her family, Amy finally makes a dragon that feels right for her.
