3rd Annual CRRL-Con: A Comic Book Convention at Your Library!

CRRL-Con returns to England Run Branch for the third year on Saturday, May 20, 1:00-4:00. Unleash your inner superhero while enjoying an afternoon featuring cosplay, a costume contest, free comics, artists, crafts, gaming, a photo and video booth, films, free balloon creatures, and much more! All ages. 

 

Featured Events Include...

3:15 pm - The CRRL-Con costume contest begins. Prizes will be awarded for children, teens, and adults.

All Day​ Fun

  • Get your free custom balloon creation from Ryan The Balloon Guy.
  • View and purchase comics from comic book dealers.    
  • Game your heart out with Wii and Xbox gaming along with Euro-style board games for all ages.
  • Strike a pose in our photo and video booths—superhero props provided!

Celebrate all things Star Wars with a showing of Star Wars: The Force Awakens and a mini Star Wars photo booth. Dress as your favorite Star Wars character and you’ll be entered into a raffle drawing. Grade 7–adult.

Newton Branch, Friday, May 4 to Sunday, May 6 
Drop in for Star Wars books, games, and a do-it-yourself Star Wars crafts station. Snap a selfie with a stormtrooper and enter a raffle to win Star Wars memorabilia!!


Fabulous Friday: Geek Out!

Leaping Tall Buildings: The Origins of American Comics
Porter Branch, Thursday, May 11, 7:00–8:00 

Christopher Irving, a comic book and popular culture historian, performs a reading of his book co-authored with Seth Kushner. Subjects include Stan Lee (Marvel Comics, Spider-Man), Frank Miller (Batman: The Dark Knight Returns), Art Spiegelman (Maus), Chris Ware (Building Stories), Harvey Pekar (American Splendor), and Dennis O’Neil (Batman). A Virginia Museum of Fine Arts program. Teen-adult.
