Many people find that modern life offers a lot to learn, but very little time in which to learn it. How can you learn about interesting topics such as pollinators, dream research, and substance abuse recovery in our community? Through our Lunch & Learn, opens a new window videos. Every Friday, a new informational video, usually less than 30-minutes long, will be posted to our YouTube, opens a new window, Facebook, opens a new window, and CRRL’s website. Throughout the summer, our Lunch & Learn videos will spotlight events and programs in our community. On June 13, you can watch "Pollinator Week Kick-off.", opens a new window This video promotes our Pollinator Week, opens a new window events, which start on June 21, and explains how you can help pollinators. On June 20, "State of the Girl", opens a new window will premiere. It discusses Girls on the Run, opens a new window, a nonprofit that promotes health and exercise programs for girls through running and coaching. And, on July 18, you can see the "Step VA and Sensory Day at the Ballpark", opens a new window video. This video discusses Step VA, opens a new window, an arts-based nonprofit for people with disabilities, and its choir, which will perform at the Fred Nats Stadium during Sensory Friendly Night (July 24).
Our Lunch & Learn videos offer a quick, accessible format to learn about science. On and after May 23, you can watch "Comparing the Geologies of Mars and Earth.", opens a new window This video explains how the structure and composition of Mars and Earth differ and what effect this could have on the colonization of Mars. On July 11, CRRL will present "The Dreaming Mind.", opens a new window It explains how dream research is opening new avenues into human creativity and problem solving. On August 8, "Scatology", opens a new window will premiere. It explores how paleontologists use coprolities (fossilized dung) to learn about the diets and habits of extinct animals like dinosaurs. August 15 sees the debut of "Hydroponics for Beginners.", opens a new window This video discusses how you can grow plants using water-based nutrients rather than soil.
Lunch & Learn videos also cover information on a wide variety of physical and mental health topics. On June 27, "Why Kids Need Time in Nature", opens a new window debuts. It details why children need outdoor playtime and exploration to promote good mental and physical health. July 25 sees the launch of "Stretch & Strengthen in 10,", opens a new window which discusses how seniors can use a 10-minute stretching workout to improve their flexibility and strength. On August 1, you can watch "All About Aikido,", opens a new window which demonstrates and explains the history of this Japanese martial art. And, on August 22, CRRL will premiere the "HER House", opens a new window video. This video discusses HER House, opens a new window, a residency program for women recovering from substance use.
