Coming This Fall: Westmoreland Library on the Go

Beginning Tuesday, September 2, Central Rappahannock Regional Library is launching Westmoreland Library on the Go, a mobile library service that expands access to essential resources across Westmoreland County.

The Westmoreland Library on the Go van brings access to free WIFI, laptops, printers, collection materials, research assistance, and programming directly into the community. Scheduled stops are anticipated at apartment complexes, senior living facilities, and community centers. This service makes it easier for residents, particularly older adults in remote areas, to access library services without needing to visit a physical branch.

At each stop, customers can:

  • Pick up holds and browse a selection of books to check out
  • Use laptops, Wi-Fi, and a printer
  • Receive help with research and technology questions

In addition, the van will drop boxes of read-and-return books to several Westmoreland County schools and daycares. Customers may borrow these items, then return them to the box when finished.

This project is made possible by a $50,000 grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS). Additional support was generously provided by:

  • Northern Neck Insurance’s Community Grant Program: $2,785.00 for purchasing technology
  • William Cage Library Trust: $2,500 for startup materials
  • Topside Federal Credit Union: $1,000 for custom van branding
  • Friends of the Library: $500 from the Giving Tuesday fundraiser

To receive materials at a Library on the Go stop, customers should select "Westmoreland Outreach" as their pickup location when placing holds.
