Children Can Listen and Learn with New Portable Readalongs

Coming to a library branch near you, our preloaded eBook players (readalongs) are always ready to read a story to your child at the push of a button.

Forever favorites (Goodnight, Moon), silly stories (That's What Dinosaurs Do; Click, Clack, Moo - Cows That Type), true books (Fire Trucks, Doctors, and Butterflies) are all waiting for your children to press the button and listen to their stories.

But what if young readers/listeners want to hear the story over and over again? That's no problem! Each book can be listened to more than 100 times between charges for a lot of listening. Plus, the readalongs are sturdy enough to take along on a nature walk and be enjoyed by many children.  While the sound is loud enough so several children can listen at once, these readalongs also can go along anywhere your child does - just add headphones or earbuds.

You can find the readalongs in our catalog by searching portable readalongs and then reserve your selection to pick up at your favorite branch.

Darcie Caswell, CRRL Youth Services Coordinator, is enthusiastic:

"These new readalongs are amazing! You don't need internet access or a computer to make them work. There are no CDs to keep track of. Just press play, and children will be encouraged to learn to read, to practice their reading, and to just make reading fun."

Besides the new readalong devices, CRRL also has two online resources that will connect your family with other ways to listen and learn. Early World of Learning offers readalong stories in English and Spanish, while OverDrive offers more than 100 readalong titles as eBooks.
