Weather Station at Howell Branch

Central Rappahannock Regional Library has a weather station located at its Howell branch in Stafford County! Anyone can view current temperature and humidity or get historical weather data for the past week or months by clicking on our location. Information is also shared with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) as part of their Citizen Weather Observer Program for use in their weather prediction models.

This weather station was received as part of a grant-funded, museum-quality science exhibit, Discover Earth: A Century of Change. The Central Rappahannock Regional Library system was one of only ten libraries in the country to receive the grant. The Discover Earth exhibition focused on local earth science topics - such as weather, the water cycle, and ecosystem changes - as well as a global view of our changing planet. This exciting traveling exhibit opened at the Howell Branch on February 26, 2013.

Discover Earth: A Century of Change is part of the STAR Library Education Network (STAR_Net) led by the National Center for Interactive Learning at the Space Science Institute. Exhibit partners include the American Library Association, the Lunar and Planetary Institute, and the National Girls Collaborative Project. Discover Earth is supported through a grant from the National Science Foundation.
