Lunch & Learn: Quick Learning For You!

Many people find that modern life offers a lot to learn, but very little time in which to learn it. How can you learn about interesting and important topics such as local African American artists and craftspeople, the haunted history of Fredericksburg, artificial intelligence, and stress management? Throughout the fall, our Lunch & Learn videos spotlight topics on the environment and culture of our area. You can watch the August 29 program on our Water Conservation District, opens a new window. This video discusses how Soil and Water Conservation Districts help in maintaining the environment of the Fredericksburg area. October 10 is the debut of Celebrate Black Fine Arts Month, opens a new window. At this Lunch & Learn, you'll discover visual arts and poetry produced by local African American artists. And, beginning October 31, you can watch the Haunted History of Fredericksburg, opens a new window. Listen to some spooky tales of Fredericksburg before the witching hour on Halloween!

Lunch & Learn videos are a great way to learn about important topics in health and education. September 5 marked the debut of AI the Easy Way, opens a new window. This video provides a simple, informal way to learn important facts about artificial intelligence and how our society currently uses it. Beginning September 19, you can watch a session on the Special Olympics, opens a new window. This video discusses the importance of the Special Olympics and how you can get involved and help the athletes. October 3 brings A Practical Approach to Meditation, opens a new window. It talks about how meditation can be used to reduce stress and calm the mind to promote mental health. And, October 17 sees the release of Stress Management, opens a new window. Learn how you can manage stress and reduce its impact on your life from this video!

History is another topic often spotlighted in Lunch & Learn videos. Beginning September 12, you can watch a program on Florence Bascom: Pioneer of Geology, opens a new window. This video discusses the life of Florence Bascom, considered to be the first female geologist in the United States. September 26 is the debut of Preserving Fredericksburg City, opens a new window. It’s a discussion about the Historic Fredericksburg Foundation, which is a nonprofit that preserves the history and culture of the Fredericksburg area. And, on October 24, CRRL will premiere History of African American Craftspeople, opens a new window. Listen to the history of African American craftspeople and their journeys to freedom across American history, beginning before the dawn of the Revolutionary War.
